Cyberpunk 2077 – The Mess With The Consoles

The Cyberpunk 2077 has been the most awaited video game in recent times, but its launch has been a mess on multiple consoles. CD Projekt Red has entered damage control on the open-world RPG game with reports of massive bugs, crashes and poor performance on base units of the Xbox One and PS4. Initially, the developers offered rebates via social media, which led to the now-famous black-on-yellow theme, which has come to mean bad Cyberpunk news. CD Projekt Red also released a transcript of a conference call addressing issues with the game.

Quite honestly, the situation couldn’t be any worse.

The Management Board, led by president and joint CEO Adam Kiciński, has come out and admitted that they were too focused on releasing the game that underestimated the scale and complexity of the issues that could come with the game. They also said that they ignored the signs about the need for extra time to optimise the game better on the base last-gen consoles, which was undoubtedly the wrong approach and against the business philosophy of the company. One of the most misleading advertisements from the company was that the game ran perfectly on all gaming PCs, which it didn’t.

Trust and reputation are of absolute prime importance when it comes to the gaming community, both of which, the company agrees, they may have lost a lot because of Cyberpunk. CD Projekt used to have the best reputation after their Witcher game series, and this had led to a lot of goodwill in advance of the release of Cyberpunk 2077.

One of the major criticisms that CD Projekt Red face is that it didn’t show the gameplay of Cyberpunk 2077 on the base versions of the PS4 and Xbox One consoles before release. However, they did show footage on the much more high performance upgraded versions of the Xbox One X and PS4 Pro machines. This meant that the performance issues pertaining to the game came as a nasty surprise to many players, which did not sit well with console gamers considering the fact that the game garnered 8 million sales just from pre-orders, with a major portion of those on consoles.

The parts of this call drawing the most ire on the internet right now are the following few passages after the speakers are asked more about the game’s delays, the console version not getting enough attention, and whether the priority was to not let the game delay again into next year. SVP of business development Michał Nowakowski has stated that the cause of ignoring the shortcomings of the current generation version of the game was because they were looking at the PC and next-generation performance of the game rather than the current-gen. However, what they should have done was to spend enough time looking at the current-gen version and improving it later.rel=”nofollow”
